Travel to Germany - Bielefeld Germany

The city of Bielefeld Germany is in the state of Nordrhein-Westfalen in Eastern Westfalia. This city of over 300,000 has something for everyone. Its broad traffic circles, shopping, restaurants and a mixture of old and new architecture, cultural centers, museums and restaurants provide plenty of things to see and do and offer an intimate way to travel Germany. Bielefeld Germany is rich in history. In 1938, the city’s synagogue was burned during the pogrom of the Nazi Third Reich. In September of 1944, Bielefeld endured an air strike that killed more than six hundred people and destroyed large sections of the city. It was not until 1945 that American troops entered the city and handed the transitional peace to the British military.  

Today, Bielefeld Germany is home to successful business and industry with textile and clothing manufacturers and large sectors of industry in construction and mechanical engineering. Interestingly, Bielefeld is actively pursuing the healthcare sector as well and there are thousands of workers employed in this industry. Most local Bielefeld residents work in service industries and many others work in manufacturing jobs.

Bielefeld is situated in the West Central portion of Germany. From there you can travel East to Berlin, South to Stuttgart and Frankfurt or go in a northerly direction and visit Bremen and Hamburg. If you choose to stay put and explore Bielefeld Germany, you will not be disappointed. There is much to see in this beautiful city and the tram and bus transportation system makes it easy for tourists to get around the city. If you get lost, Bielefelders – the city residents are so named – are always happy to help you find your way around.

If you plan to stay in Bielefeld for a leisurely visit, you may wish to choose an apartment or private suite rather than a hotel. Just remember, most of these residences are German speaking only or, at best, the hosts and hostesses speak broken English. If you do not have a command of the language, you may wish to stay at one of the many hotels in the city. You will not be disappointed.
